Thirtieth PAW of the year

I hate the way the modern buildings are whittling away the old, grand look of Ulaanbaatar. People call it progress, but I have my doubts. These new buildings are too big compared to the rest of the city. Too much glass, too. They make me want to puke.

But when I look at (some of) those modern buildings individually and outside the context of the rest of the city... they do have some appeal. I see details and views, like the one in the thirtieth PAW of 2008, that remind me of New York, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam or whatever great city with great urban architecture.

One thing I have to admit... the architect, the client and the municipal government aren't afraid to shock and awe the public. I may find most of those modern buildings eyesores but what lovely eyesores they are! :)
