Red ceiling, by William Eggleston

Red ceiling, or Greenwood, Mississippi, 1973.
by William Eggleston
used with permission from the Eggleston Trust
Only a few days ago, I wrote a little article on William Eggleston's work. I simply love his work. To liven up the article I asked Mr Eggleston, through the Eggleston Trust if he would allow me to use one of his photos on this blog. Here is the original email to Mr Eggleston.
Today I found a reply to my email on my mailbox! Winston Eggleston, the manager of the Eggleston Trust, emailed me I can use one of Mr Eggleston's photos. I'm elated! I feel honoured to be allowed this most generous and gracious favour. Mr Eggleston, thank you very much!
Dear Mr Eggleston.
I am a great fan of you and your work, and I have written a little article on your work on my weblog.
The article can be found here: http://shardsofphotography.blogspot.com/2005/09/william-eggleston.html .
I am not a great writer and not a really useful critic, even if I wanted to be, lacking the erudite knowledge and liguistics to write incomprehensible dros on people and their work that far surpass me, my poor attempts and my meager skills; I am not a great photographer, though I strive to be.
I wrote the article out of admiration for your work, work that has been a great influence on me lately, work that I admire as much as I do work by Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
I have tried to stay with the facts as I know them and I tried to convey the feelings, thoughts and emotions I experience when I see your work.
Your work, however, is amazing and I lack the capacity to properly put my feelings and emotions on your work in writing.
I am wondering whether you would be so kind to take a look at this article.
Any comments, remarks, additions or corrections you might have, are most welcome.
I have one truly great favout to ask.
I would like to post one of your photos with the article, namely the "Red ceiling" or "Greenwood, Mississippi, 1973" photo, but I feel I morally shouldn't (and probably legally can't) do so without your permission.
Mr Eggleston, will you allow me to post the "Greenwood, Mississippi, 1973" photo on my weblog?
If you allow me to do so, is there a link to an electronic version of this photo that you allow me to use?
Your work makes me happy when I look at it, and opens my mind when I "see" at it.
It has enriched my mind and opened up a whole new territory of photography for me.
Mr Eggleston, thank you very much for sharing your work with the world and by doing so, giving inspiration to (I reckon) many people.
Sincerely yours,
Remy Lang
Dear Remy,
Great article. You have our permission to use the red ceiling image on your website - thanks for asking! You can just use the one off our website.
Best,
Winston Eggleston
